Nonprofits were celebrated during the Community Grant Awards ceremony.
PITTSBURGH – On April 11, 2024, the GBU Foundation hosted its inaugural Community Grant Awards ceremony. Twelve nonprofit organizations were awarded grants in the areas of GBU Life’s (GBU) four Community Pillars – Wellness, Education, Charitable Giving and Hometown Hero Support. The GBU Foundation also presented its first Community Builder Award with a $5,000 grant to The Heyward House, also known as The Cameron Heyward Foundation. The 12 winning nonprofit organizations are as follows:
Wellness Pillar
- First prize of $10,000: The ALS Association
- Second prize of $5,000: The Little Fox-Toby’s Foundation
- Third prize of $2,500: A Glimmer of Hope Foundation
Education Pillar
- First prize of $10,000: Western Allegheny Community Library
- Second prize of $5,000: Washington Health System Teen Outreach
- Third prize of $2,500: Mooncrest Neighborhood Programs
Charitable Giving Pillar
- First prize of $10,000: Women’s Center & Shelter
- Second prize of $5,000: Light of Life Rescue Mission
- Third prize of $2,500: Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
Hometown Hero Support Pillar
- First prize of $10,000: Operation Troop Appreciation
- Second prize of $5,000: Veterans Parsonage
- Third prize of $2,500: Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department
“As we honor these nonprofits whose efforts and commitment have earned them this well-deserved recognition, we also celebrate the transformative impact the GBU Foundation grants will have on the communities these organizations serve,” said GBU Senior Vice President/CMO Lesley Mann.
As part of the GBU Foundation’s 60th anniversary celebration, GBU members and non-members from across the country were asked to nominate their favorite charitable organizations for the opportunity to receive a grant. Finalists were selected, and more than 7,000 votes were cast to determine the winning grant award recipients.
