GBU Financial life and GBU Foundation continues with its 13th annual Operation Reach Out project with a goal to send 5,000 care packages to deployed US Military Personnel.

PITTSBURGH, PA (October 23, 2019) GBU Financial Life (GBU) announced today that it will seek to pack and send 5,000 care packages to deployed US Military Personnel. The care packages will be packed and sent by volunteers at an event to be hosted by GBU on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

Operation Reach out was introduced in 2006 by GBU Financial life as a way of thanking US military personnel for their services and to let them know that someone back home is thinking about them. The care packages, which were sent to 2,250 deployed troops in 2018, contain personal care items, special treats and notes and cards thanking them for their service to our country. Since the project’s inception, GBU has sent out more than 18,000 care packages to deployed military personnel.

Due to the expansion of the project, GBU has teamed up with Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA), a Pittsburgh non-profit celebrating its 15th year of shipping wish-list items to deployed military personnel. “Operation Troop Appreciation does an excellent job of helping our troops”, said Jennifer Stockdale, Communications Director for GBU. “They have an ideal facility and the experience needed to help us to achieve our goals with this project”. The Operation Reach Out packing day will be held starting at 9 a.m. at Operation Troop Appreciation’s headquarters in the South Hills Industrial park (1200 Lebanon Rd #510 West Mifflin, PA 15122) on Saturday November 2, 2019.

“This year we are asking Pittsburgh to get involved”, said GBU CEO William Hunt. “We are inviting anyone who wants to thank a deployed military member for their service to sponsor a care package and add a personal note. Individuals and organizations can also get involved by coloring cards to send with the packages and by volunteering to help prepare and pack the care packages on November 2.” So far, GBU has nearly 200 community members signed up to help assemble care packages and has received significant donations as well as more than 2,500 hand colored cards from community members and they are hoping for continued support to be able to reach the 5,000 package goal.
